What started as a normal season of life—working, baking, dreaming about the future—quickly turned into something we never saw coming. Our home, the place that was supposed to be safe and steady, became the source of a problem we didn’t even know we had: mold.

After getting married in August of 2025, Ben and I decided to rennovate our bathroom. Our contractor pulled back the wall and discovered—you guessed it: mold. We thought it was an isolated incident. But as we started uncovering more, it became clear this wasn’t a small fix. It was everything. Walls, insulation, floors—piece by piece, we realized our home needed to be taken down to the studs and rebuilt. After hiring a remediation company, we learned we had to throw away all porous items. This meant almost all of our furniture— our new mattress, antiques, rugs, couches, even our clothing.

This discovery explained so much, especially years of chronic health issues and unexplainable symptoms that we’d never been able to find the source of.

It’s hard to explain what that feels like. Watching the place you built your life in come apart. Losing belongings, memories, and the sense of stability you didn’t realize you depended on so deeply.

But somewhere in the middle of the chaos, we made a decision: we weren’t going to let this story end here.

“Breaking the Mold” isn’t just about what happened to our house—it’s about what we’re choosing to do next. It’s about rebuilding, not just structurally, but emotionally. It’s about creating something stronger, healthier, and more intentional than what we had before.

This space is where we’re sharing that process. The hard parts, the hopeful parts, and everything in between. We’ll be documenting the rebuild, sharing what we’re learning about mold and remediation, and finding ways to turn something really difficult into something that can help others.

If you’re here, whether you’re just following along, supporting us, or going through something similar yourself—thank you. Truly.

We’re excited for what this next chapter will bring, and glad you’re here to join us. So thank you!

—Ben & Lindsey
